What did the postie bring today?

My copy of Lunatic’s Brain Cloud arrived today with a $5 included band t-shirt (that actually fits nicely!). I bought this record in support of a family friend Ando, who is the drummer and backing vocals for Lunatic. Until now I have not heard a single track and as I flip it over to side B, so far its a nice sounding record.

Self described as a fuzz punk rock outfit from Melbourne, they have a heavy fuzzed out sound, with tight drums (and some sweet fills), steadying bass and rocking thrashed out guitar riffs. Some of the songs are have a party punk rock vibe to them while others are a little heavy metal sounding. The final track is a slower number and nice finish to the album

I also really like the name, Brain Cloud. Im not sure what its in reference too but it makes me think of Joe Versus the Volcano staring Tom Hanks. The basic premise of the movie is about a hypochondriac guy down on his luck (Tom Hanks) who is made to believe he has a terminal illness, a brain cloud. Since he is already ‘going to die’, he is a offered a one way, all expenses paid, ticket to the island of Wapooni Woo to appease the gods by jumping into a volcano as a human sacrifice. The movie is hilarious and one of my all time favourites. Not sure if this is where they got the title Brain Cloud tho!

Brain Cloud by Lunatics is self released on Lunatic Noise – LN001 and available to purchase via Bandcamp
