Beans – All Together Now

I received my copy of Beans – All Together Now from the Flightless label. ‘Melt’ edition limited to 1000 copies is a nice purple and magenta double sided swirl. Looks awesome but my copy is more a mix of purple and magenta without much swirl.

All Together Now is a greatly evolved sounding album for the band including a name change or omission (dropped the Baked) from their first album Babble. They still have the same driving organs and guitar riffs throughout but it feels more like a progressive rock album than neo-psychedelic.

I really like this album though! The opening track Montgomery launches you into a 70’s prog rock track followed by Stride which I feel borrows some Brian May feeling melodic guitar solo’s and then Avalon Speedway, a King Gizz sounding track for sure.

The second side of the album is a little more rock guitar heavy but also has some groovy instrumental changes and melodic solos. They are very much suited to the Flightless label as some of their songs are still very much in the style of King Gizz (not a bad thing). Overall its a great album! As it departs slightly from the style of their first album I can see why not everyone would rate it as their best album yet.

Have a listen and judge for yourself!

  1. Totally hit the nail on the head with this review! The album certainly grew on me as I was expecting similar material to their first, but was actually relieved that they didn’t recycle the same style.
